Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 1, 2026
NAMI Dane County (“NAMI Dane County,” “we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This page explains what information we collect through namidanecounty.org (the “website”), how we use it, and the terms for using the website.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, do not use this website or its forms to ask for help. Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call the Dane County 24-Hour Crisis Line at 608-280-2600, or call 911. Our forms and inboxes are not monitored around the clock.
Privacy Policy
Information you give us
We collect information you choose to share with us when you fill out a form on our website, such as when you:
- register for a support group, class, or program (for example Support Kitchen, Cookbook Club, Gentle Roots Yoga, Family-to-Family, or Peer-to-Peer);
- apply to volunteer or for an internship;
- request a school or community presentation or a printed resource guide;
- sign up for our e-newsletter and advocacy action alerts;
- share your NAMIWalks story; or
- contact us.
Depending on the form, this may include your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, county, date of birth and age, your organization, preferred dates and times, the programs or groups you’re interested in, accessibility needs or food allergies, and anything else you write in a message or answer.
Some forms ask optional or required questions about your experience with mental health – for example, whether you or a family member live with a mental health condition, or which NAMI programs you have participated in. We ask these questions to connect you with the right programs and, in some cases, to meet reporting requirements of the grants that fund our work. Please share only what you are comfortable sharing.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the website, we and our service providers automatically collect some information about your visit, such as the pages you view, how you arrived at the site (for example from a search engine or a link), your general location (city or region), your device and browser type, and the date and time of your visit.
We use Google Analytics, managed through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use the website – for example, which pages are most visited and how many people complete a form. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies. It does not receive your name, email address, or the answers you enter in our forms. You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Our forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam and abuse. reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you interact with the page. Its use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
How we use your information
- To respond to you and provide the services you request – for example, registering you for a group or class, sending your confirmation email and meeting details, mailing a resource guide, or scheduling a presentation.
- To review and follow up on volunteer and internship applications.
- To send our e-newsletter and advocacy action alerts, if you signed up for them. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe.
- To plan and improve our programs and the website.
- To report to funders and grant makers. When we do, we use combined, de-identified information (for example, the number of people who attended a program), not your name or contact details.
- To keep the website secure and prevent spam or misuse.
- To comply with the law.
How we share your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only:
- with NAMI Dane County staff and, where needed, trained volunteers (such as support group facilitators) who help deliver the program you signed up for;
- with service providers that help us run the website and communicate with you – for example our website host, our email providers, and Google (for analytics and spam protection). They may use your information only to provide services to us;
- with NAMI Wisconsin or NAMI national when you take part in a program run with or through them (for example, a statewide support group or class);
- if required by law, or to protect the safety of any person.
Donations, memberships, and event registrations
Online donations, memberships, and event registrations are currently processed through Squarespace and its payment partners. When you make a payment or registration there, the Squarespace Privacy Policy also applies. We do not store your credit card information on our website.
How long we keep information
We keep form submissions and other records for as long as we need them for the purpose you provided them, and for the periods required by Wisconsin and federal law (for example, for nonprofit, tax, and grant records). When information is no longer needed and is not required to be kept, we delete it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time; we will do so unless the law requires us to keep it.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information, including secure (HTTPS) connections and restricted access to form submissions. No website or email system is completely secure, so please do not send highly sensitive information – such as medical records or Social Security numbers – through our forms or by email.
Your choices
- Email: unsubscribe from newsletters and action alerts at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us.
- Your information: contact us to ask what information we have about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. We’ll do our best to respond within 30 days.
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of Google Analytics as described above. Some parts of the website may not work as well without cookies.
Children’s privacy
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Some volunteer roles are open to teens aged 14 and older with a parent or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
