NAMI Dane County Appoints Two New Board Members

Yesterday, the NAMI Dane County Board of Directors approved the appointment of two new directors to the board: Amanda Pirt Meyer and Andrew Gonzalez. In March, the membership will vote to approve a three-year term for each.

Amanda is a Social Security Disability Attorney at Becker Law Office. She brings needed legal expertise to the board. Her relationship to mental health is as an idividual with first-person experience and family member of individual with mental illness. She has other board service in the Dane County Bar Association. When asked why she wants to join the board, she said:

As an attorney who works with individuals who have been denied Social Security Disability benefits, I am acutely aware of the necessity of education and support services for those with mental health impairments, as well as their support team. Most of my clients have some kind of mental illness; they struggle with work, with activities of daily living, and with maintaining relationships. NAMI’s mission to provide services to those affected is similar to the services I provide in the legal community. As a NAMI Board Member, I will provide legal expertise given my education and experience with litigation, administrative law proceedings, and legal writing; I am also an experienced speaker. I regularly serve as a presenter in continuing learning education seminars locally and nationally.

Andrew Gonzalez is the Vice President of Business Banking at Park Bank. The skills he brings to the board are financial management and fundraising and donor cultivation. His relationship to mental health is as a family member of someone with a mental illness. Other board experience includes:

  • United Way of Dane County

  • Madison Development Corporation

  • Dane County Development Corporation

When asked why he wanted to join the board, Andrew said:

I have 21 years of banking and financial management experience and have worked directly with other non-profits on their fundraising and donor cultivation efforts (such as the United Way campaign). I am passionate about giving back and feel my background and experience can bring value to NAMI Dane County.

Congratulations to Amanda and Andrew on their appointment! We look forward to having you on the board.
