Highlights from NAMI Wisconsin's Annual Conference
Honoring the Past, Envisioning the Future, was the theme of NAMI Wisconsin’s annual conference held at The Osthoff Resort last month in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
The conference was created to connect, inform, and empower leaders in the mental health world. It focused on timely topics relevant to mental health and wellness and hosted over 400 mental health advocates and professionals from all across the state.
Highlights of the two-day event included NAMI founder Nancy Abraham's special opening address, and two uplifting and impassioned keynote speeches. On day one, author, pediatrician, preventative health doctor and educator Dr. Jasmine Zapata, MD delivered a powerful keynote entitled "Beyond Beautiful: Addressing Social and Determinant of Mental Health Through the Power of Resilience." On day two organizational strategist and executive advisor Melanie Schmidt's forward-looking keynote speech "Thriving Through Change" was equally insightful, impactful and humorous.
The bulk of the conference was comprised of multiple “breakout sessions” which were presented by over 50 inspiring and talented experts on topics ranging from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to Reiki Spiritual Energy Healing to Financial Wellness. Details and handouts from each session are availble for viweing here.
Mark your calendars! Next year NAMI Wisconsin's Annual Conference will be held Friday, April 26th - Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton. Registration will open in early November. For more information please visit namiwisconsin.org
